Reflections

You know, some times when you listen to certain songs you get a sudden rush of memories related to that song which come to you so fast that you get overwhelmed with emotion. Well, I just experienced that kind of thing.

The guilty song: "Love Song (Just To Be With You) ~ Third Day"

It just brought back so many things: POP and of course Eden-Sol concert, and all the various times I've partcipated in this sort of evangelistic outreaches. Thats when I realised that the wave of emotion that hit me didn't only contain that of relief, gladness, but also that of sadness and anguish. It surprised me.

I tried thinking about other situations when I had gone out of my way to do things for non-Christians, for my fellow Christians, and even strangers. In most cases, sadness followed. And often, the sadness far overweighed the happiness. And then I thought about the times when I were by myself, helping my own spiritual growth. Those times were when I felt so happy, so calm and so blissful.

If I were a firm supporter of utilitarianism, I would have given up serving long ago.

But what made me go on? I'm convinced that it is my love for God. And one thing's for certain, I will continue going out of my way so that the lives of my friends, be it Christian or non-Christian, would be further influenced by God. No matter what the cost to my emotional stability.

That is my way of the Christian. And I hope every Christian I know can say the same thing. Though the price to pay may be hefty, do not hesitate to go the extra mile for others. Many Christians in the world today rest on their laurels, choosing to think about themselves, their own benefits, their own feelings, their own spiritual growth.

My challenge to my friends: Break out of that barrier! Put the benefits, feelings and growth of others before that of yours. Even if it means you have to pay the ultimate price. Thats what Jesus did for us, and I believe that its the closest thing to what he did, is to put others before ourselves.

Love Song ~ Third Day

Verse 1
I've heard it said that a man would climb a mountain
Just to be with the one he loves
How many times has he broken that promise?
It has never been done
I've never climbed the highest mountain
But I walked the hill of Calvary

Chorus
Just to be with you I'd do anything
There's no price I would not pay
Just to be with you I'd give anything
I would give my life away

Verse 2
I've heard it said that a man would swim the ocean
Just to be with the one he loves
Well all those dreams are an empty emotion
It can never be done.
I've never swam the deepest ocean
But I walked upon the raging sea

Chorus

Bridge
And I know that you don't understand the fullness of my love
How I died upon the cross for your sins
And I know that you don't realize how much I gave you
And I promise I'd do it all again

Such a wonderful song. Though it does hurt a bit to read through the lyrics, I place it close to my heart. Whatever He does, I will emulate. How bout you? Will you be able to pay the price just for the sake of others, and always put other people before yourself? Do think about it.

It's been quite some time since the last post, and time has just been ticking on. I'm entering a new phase in my career in a new office at Queenstown. Things are good on the work front, as I've been given a vote of confidence and responsibilities despite my young age. Eventually I'll be getting re-designated as a Team Leader, and looking forward to it! It's a sign that I am well versed enough in the work. Another part of my life that has been looking up - playing keys/bass for the newly created Saturday Service for church. I feel that spiritually things are well despite the turmoil of last year. A great sense of fulfillment and meaning whenever I do that, as if I'm back to my roots. In terms of leisure the usual things:  1. Soccer - Late night matches (back to the good old days) 2. PS4 - Trying to finish off Tales of Berseria, moving on to Assassins Creed: Origin thereafter 3. Anime - Still watching the good old stuff that is still going on (One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh,...

Digimon

I'm feeling quite nostalgic and have been thinking about my childhood a lot recently. A lot of it is because of the retreat I just had with my CG members and how having such a retreat reminded me of days that were more slower paced and more relaxed.  It makes me want to relive some of my memories. Two ways that I've thought about is soccer - I've been watching some of the World Cup matches, and it reminds me of the late nights I had watching matches when I was 15 or so and just starting this blog. About how soccermugger came to be in the first place and how I wanted this platform to post about soccer scores and how I felt about the matches I watched. The other way is to watch old anime, and I'm thinking about revisiting the first ever anime I watched which was Digimon. It was televised in Mandarin at 8am, and I remember waking up early on the weekends to watch it fervently. Maybe its time to do that again.  In general I guess my inclinations are to be more at ease and ...

Ride On

Recently things have been going really well. I've had a leadership position in my workplace for almost one year now and it is quite amazing how God has guided throughout the way. Despite this I feel that I have achieved the balance between my work, personal life and I'm in some sort of a flow that makes me satisfied about how things are going. I'm about to transition to another stage of it, and it feels that along the way God has prepared me each and every step. There's a lot to give thanks for.  Things are really cruising along. I've always liked a good, smooth drive and life feels that way at the moment. Its been a long time along a bumpy road but finally things feel right.  Praise be to God who calms the raging seas. Praise be to God who can be counted on for the hardest difficulties in life.  Not sure when the next post be, but I think if things carry on the way they are, more good posts are to come.
