Trendspotting.

Just finished doing my GP Prelim Post Mortem (I know I should've done it earlier)... Heres what I found out.

Essay

I think it just boiled down to one thing. Choosing the right question. When I look back at the compre questions I suddenly realised that certain essays I thought were difficult were actually quite simple. Not like the one I wrote, after writing one or two paras I discovered that I'd ran out of examples to use.

And I forgot to "unpack" the question. A simple strategy Mrs Toh taught us that I'd forgotten to use because I was extremely flustered by the paper.

Been doing some trendspotting... And results have shown that the most common topic is on "Medicine and Health", with 7 appearances in the 8 previous A Level Exams, followed by "Technology" and "The Arts" with 6 Appearances. Other common topics include "Goods" (as in morality), "History", "Geopolitics" and "Public Policy". And the questions are relatively more simpler than those set by JCs.

Compre

My compre sorta improved. I was really quite happy with the results. Following Aunty Elma's method really helped clear my mind. (Which was in a blur after the traumatic Essay Paper) Yeah I'm satisfied. I think if I use her method again I can advance to an A grade for compre.

My compo used to pull my grades up but this time it was thanks to the compre that I managed to scrape B. Essay was really quite bad.

Ok more trendspotting... Out of the past 8 A Levels, there were only two occurences of there being 2 passages for compre. The other 6 involved only 1 passage. Also, for the past two years, the majority of the marks out of the non vocab, summary and AQ questions came from paraphrase questions. (9 marks out of 35 to be exact) Of course 8 from AQ, 7/8 from Summary, and 5 from Vocab.

Its up to you what to make out of these trends. But hope it helped.

Ok enough about A Level Stuff.

Found a pretty sweet site where you can watch anime. Its quite well structured, well planned in my opinion. (Despite it being a blog and all)

www.animerising.blogspot.com

Have no idea whether its illegal or not. Sure hope not. Cos there are really lots of anime there, and I'd like to try watching some of the series uploaded.

Next post: EPL
Post after that: Movie! And random piano songs.

Digimon

I'm feeling quite nostalgic and have been thinking about my childhood a lot recently. A lot of it is because of the retreat I just had with my CG members and how having such a retreat reminded me of days that were more slower paced and more relaxed.  It makes me want to relive some of my memories. Two ways that I've thought about is soccer - I've been watching some of the World Cup matches, and it reminds me of the late nights I had watching matches when I was 15 or so and just starting this blog. About how soccermugger came to be in the first place and how I wanted this platform to post about soccer scores and how I felt about the matches I watched. The other way is to watch old anime, and I'm thinking about revisiting the first ever anime I watched which was Digimon. It was televised in Mandarin at 8am, and I remember waking up early on the weekends to watch it fervently. Maybe its time to do that again.  In general I guess my inclinations are to be more at ease and ...

Gamble

It's been quite some time since the last post, and time has just been ticking on. I'm entering a new phase in my career in a new office at Queenstown. Things are good on the work front, as I've been given a vote of confidence and responsibilities despite my young age. Eventually I'll be getting re-designated as a Team Leader, and looking forward to it! It's a sign that I am well versed enough in the work. Another part of my life that has been looking up - playing keys/bass for the newly created Saturday Service for church. I feel that spiritually things are well despite the turmoil of last year. A great sense of fulfillment and meaning whenever I do that, as if I'm back to my roots. In terms of leisure the usual things:  1. Soccer - Late night matches (back to the good old days) 2. PS4 - Trying to finish off Tales of Berseria, moving on to Assassins Creed: Origin thereafter 3. Anime - Still watching the good old stuff that is still going on (One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh,...
